Add live chat to your website with Messello
A website live chat widget lets visitors message you directly from any page, and every conversation lands in your shared Messello inbox alongside your other channels.
Create a Website inbox
- In Messello, go to Settings → Inboxes → Add inbox.
- Choose Website as the channel.
- Enter your website name and domain, then set a welcome heading and tagline.
- Assign the agents or teams who should handle incoming chats, then finish setup.
Add the live chat snippet to your site
After creating the inbox, Messello shows a short JavaScript snippet.
- Copy the snippet from the inbox settings page.
- Paste it just before the closing </body> tag on every page where you want live chat.
- Using a site builder (Webflow, Shopify, WordPress, Wix, Squarespace)? Paste the snippet into the platform's custom code or "footer scripts" area so it loads site-wide.
- Publish your site.
Customize the widget
Open the inbox and adjust the Widget settings to match your brand:
- Set the widget color, position (left or right), and launcher title.
- Write a reply-time expectation so visitors know when to expect an answer.
- Enable pre-chat forms to collect a name and email before a chat starts.
Test it
- Open your live site in a new browser tab and click the chat launcher.
- Send a test message and confirm it appears in your Messello inbox.
- Reply from Messello and check that it shows up in the widget.
